Forum > Operating Systems > Topic Operating Systems ForumTechnology proposal: Linux398217392157123498 on 31 July 2015, 10 years ago About the operating system overview: https://w3techs.com/technologies/overview/operating_system I created this account to say that Linux isn't a type of Unix, so it should be shown separately. Currently it is lumped in with Unix. This can cause confusion. For example when I first found this website I looked for the stats for the share of servers running Linux. However on the page I linked to above it didn't mention Linux and on this page: https://w3techs.com/technologies/details/os-unix it merely says that Linux is 53% of the "Unix" category. You have to go to the Linux page itself to see that it is 36% and it's strange that it isn't right on the overview page since it has the plurality.
To follow this request you would also need to remove Linux from the Unix category on all the relevant pages, not just the overview page, of course. Sam Soltano (site administrator) on 9 August 2015, 10 years ago Thank you for that feedback. Our Unix category actually covers also Unix-like system such as Linux. You need to be logged in to reply. |
