Highlights of web technology surveys, May 2010: Drupal, Ubuntu, Local Counter ServicesSummary: This is a summary of a few remarkable and recently emerging changes in our statistics.
Although the most popular technologies in each category don't change frequently, we often see raising technologies worth a special mentioning. These are recent highlights:

Drupal is now ranked #3 in the Content Management System survey. Is was actually a surprise that vBulletin had that position for a long time, because Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal are often referred to as the "big three". -
Ubuntu is a very popular desktop distribution (ranking first on Distrowatch). It is also gaining now as web server operating system, where it ranks #4 at the moment, ahead of Fedora now. Debian still holds the top position there, but CentOS is coming closer and closer.

In the Traffic Analysis Tools report, we can see very strong positions of local counter services, most notably Rambler from Russia and CNZZ from China, but also LiveInternet and 51.la. These services cannot compete with full-fledged web analytics packages from a functionality point of view, but their strong presence in their local markets is quite remarkable.
On the other hand, it is sometimes also surprising when things don't change:
