Comparisons of technology usagePosted by Sam Soltano on 15 January 2013 in NewsSummary: Today we introduce a new type of report that allows to compare the usage of two or more technologies side-by-side
A new type of reports makes it easier to see the differences in usage of two or more technologies.
You can obtain that new report by selecting a technology in a technology report, say for example select MooTools from the JavaScript Libraries report. There, you see a link compare with others in the menu. Now select for instance Prototype from the list to compare it with Mootools to finally get the MooTools vs. Prototype report. You can select additional tools from there up to a total of 5.
The report starts with showing the usage and market share of the two tools:

Next you see the usage at different ranking levels, e.g. here for Joomla vs. Drupal:

Then comes a chart of the historical trend in the usage of the technologies, for example the social widgets of LinkedIn vs. StumbleUpon vs. Digg vs. Delicious:

Finally you get a market position diagram comparing popularity and traffic of the selected tools with the most popular ones, in this example Zope vs. Gunicorn.

We are confident that this new way to explore the data on our site makes it even more useful for our users.
