One year of W3Techs.comSummary: W3Techs.com went online exactly one year ago. Time for a little review.
A lot of things have changed since we went online last year. This is a short summary of the main achievements.
Our technology surveys started by covering 91 technologies in 5 key areas. Now, we monitor well over 1,000 technologies in 12 areas. We have included surveys on character encodings, client-side programming languages, content management systems, top level domains, content languages, JavaScript libraries and advertising networks.
When we started, we only had surveys on technology usage statistics. Since then, we have added reports on historical data, technology change reports and technology breakdown reports (later extended, and recently even further refined).
We have added site information reports, showing the technologies used by individual sites. This feature became one of the most popular sections of our site.
Furthermore, we have added website quality alerts, indicating potential problems on websites.
In order to improve communication with our visitors, we started this blog and we maintain pages on Facebook and Twitter. And we have added features to support webmasters and other visitors: user registration to receive quality alerts or technology change notifications by email.
We have made it easier to quickly get relevant information when browsing the web via our bookmarklet, via browser extensions, or via a Google subscribed link.
I think this is a fine list of accomplishments in one year for our small team. But what makes us even more proud is the acceptance we obtain from our visitors. We can see this in the steadily growing number of regular visitors and registered users, and in the number of blog entries and articles on the web that mention our site or use our results.
Our vision is to be the most reliable and most extensive source of information on web technology usage. Rest assured that we keep working on our site and our services towards that vision.
