Fastest growing technologies

Posted by Sam Soltano on 4 July 2011 in News

Summary:

We start showing the fastest growing technologies on our home page.

In addition to the most popular technologies, we now also show the fastest growing technologies in each category on our home page. We calculate the growth rate as the average daily number of sites within the top 1 million (according to Alexa) that started using a technology since the beginning of the previous month. We subtract, of course, the number of sites that stopped using it.

A technology can gain a site in that statistics either when the site starts using the technology, or when the sites increases its popularity so that it moves up into the top 1 million.

The fastest growing technology at the moment is JQuery. On a average day 528 sites start using JQuery. In terms of Internet site statistics, 500 sites in the top 1 million is the size of Croatia. JQuery adds a new Croatia to its user base every day.

In some categories, we see the market leaders being also the fastest growing technology, e.g. WordPress and Google Analytics, while in other categories, the growth rates indicate a change in popularity, e.g. Nginx and Windows.

We think this new statistic adds a very interesting aspect to our surveys, and we hope you find it useful.
