Automatic translations of site descriptionsPosted by Sam Soltano on 14 September 2009 in NewsSummary: On our site information pages non-English site descriptions are translated into English. When we show the description of a site's content on our site information pages, we use the text provided by the site itself as well as a description we get from Alexa. These descriptions may come in any language. Unfortunately, most of us don't understand more than a handful of languages. Therefore we wanted to translate that text into English.
We use Google's translation services to get a machine-generated translation. Of course, an automatic translation is not perfect, but normally it's good enough to understand what the site is about. That's all we wanted, and we think it works well for that purpose.
See some examples: Doctissimo.fr, Sina.com.cn, Radikal.ru. We hope you find that extension useful.
